Private Purchase Another Batt (Windsor Knott) wins the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at Ripon, on his first start for new connections Excel Racing and trainer George Scott.
Having shown promise when finishing second in a 6f Curragh maiden, Another Batt was identified as a potentially smart prospect and purchased with a date at Royal Ascot in mind for connections.
On just his third start and dropping to the minimum trip for the first time here, he was the subject of strong market support before the off and justified that faith in dominant fashion under former champion jockey Silvestre De Sousa.
Breaking smartly, Scott’s gelding showed plenty of early speed when tracking over to the rail from his wide draw and took the field along at a strong pace. When asked to quicken he did so with ease, pulling away to win easily without being extended by 5 lengths.
This performance was very much an audition for Royal Ascot and after the race his trainer laid out his options stating ” The Windsor Castle is the obvious race for Another Batt, but he likes to be out in front and dictate – so a smaller field in the Norfolk might also be a possibility”
