Salsada (Mukhadram) wins impressively at Haydock for Jedd O’Keefe and owners Elwick Stud.
Having won her last two starts, the progressive daughter of Mukhadram was up in class here and taking on a well backed and useful looking favourite in the shape of the Roger Varian trained Wondrous Words, an emphatic winner of her last start.
The race however showed that Salsada is a filly with the potential to ply her trade at stakes level, she travelled powerfully and when asked to go on on the straight by Graham Lee she did so in the style of a good horse, forging clear to win in the bridle by 2 1/4 lengths.
After the race trainer O’Keefe said “She’s a bit enigmatic at the stalls but once she’s in she couldn’t care less about them and she’s really getting the hang of things as a racehorse. I was really pleased, she galloped all the way to the line and she’s going the right way. At some point we’ll have to have a crack at some black type but that will probably be next year. In the meantime we’ll let her progress and continue to learn her job”.
Salsada was purchased for 75,000gns at the 2019 Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale.
