Salsada (Mukhadram) breaks her maiden at Newcastle for Jedd O’Keefe and owners Geoff and Sandra Turnbull of Elwick Stud.
Having shown a great deal of promise in her two opening runs, Salsada got her head in front at the third time of asking under a positive ride from partner PJ McDonald.
She broke smartly, travelling powerfully up with the pace and when McDonald asked her to go on, she did so in very pleasing style going away to win by 3/4 of a length at the line.
Salsada hails from a deep fillies family being a daughter of the winning Unfuwain mare Mokaraba and a three parts sister to Qaraaba (Shamardal) herself a Grade III winner and the dam of Grade I winning filly Californiagoldrush (Cape Blanco). It is also the further family of dual classic and six time Group 1 winner Salsabil.
Purchased for 75,000gns at the 2019 Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up sale from Longways Stables, hopes are high that this progressive and talented filly can add to her tally as the turf season approaches.
