Moon King (Sea The Moon) wins at Newcastle for Charlie Longsdon and owners Irish Merriebelle Farm Ltd.
What a fun horse Moon King has proven to be for all connected to him. Purchased as a yearling for €60,000 at the 2017 Arqana August Yearling Sale, he was a talented and prolific winner on the flat for his former trainer Ralph Beckett, notching 6 wins and achieving a high rating of 91 in the process. Since his switch to hurdles for new handler Charlie Longsdon, he has proven to be equally as progressive and talented. Having finished a pleasing 3rd on hurdles debut in early December, he broke his maiden impressively at Musselburgh just three weeks later. Today’s win saw him return to the flat in the shape of a ‘Jumper’s Bumper’ and he showed his superior class here by staying on gamely to win well under Champion Jockey Brian Hughes. The race was run at a muddling pace which led to a four furlong sprint in the home straight which perhaps did not suit this strong stayer but he got the job done.
Moon King is clearly a talented and game horse and should provide connections with plenty of options going forward.
