Private purchase Lord Du Mesnil makes it three in a row by winning The Last Fling Chase at Haydock Park.
When the going got tough, Lord Du Mesnil got going. This was an attritional test around Haydock’s notoriously stiff fences and Richard Hobson’s in form 6yo was more than equal to it. Having bolted up in the Tommy Whittle Chase at the same venue just over a week ago, Lord Du Mesnil was sent off a well backed 11/4 favourite, and market confidence was completely justified under a confident ride from regular partner Paul O’Brien.
Having been positioned just off the leader for most of the race, O’Brien asked his mount to move to the front after the fourth from home, and Lord Du Mesnil quickly bounded clear of the field. He jumped slickly throughout and ran out an impressive 9 length winner. He is clearly in rude health at present, and hopes are high this run of form can continue into the second half of the season.
