Star Of Orion (Footstepsinthesand) wins nicely at Newmarket for Ralph Beckett and owner Miss Tracey Ashlee.
It was lovely to see Star Of Orion gain his second career success here. He was a winner on debut last season at Newmarket before a string of agonising placed efforts in hot juvenile races capped off by an unlucky second in the valuable Tattersalls Ireland sales race at The Curragh and an excellent fifth place finish in the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury.
He made his seasonal re-appearance in the ultra competitive Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot in June and showed here what a tough and consistent horse he is running out a 1 1/2 length winner and beating another deep field.
After the race jockey Robb Hornby said ”He didn’t really run his race at Ascot, but he’s put that behind him and did that nicely. He was looking around in front and should have a decent summer, he’s a really likeable horse.”
