The Dancing Poet (Poets Voice) wins at Catterick for Brian Ellison and The Spring Cottage Syndicate.
On what was a red letter day for EBS purchased horses, The Dancing Poet completed an across the card treble for us at Catterick after the victories of Mokaman and Mr Kiki earlier in the day. He was sent off a well backed 9/4F for this having shown consistent form figures of 12321 since his purchase at last year’s Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale for 30,000gns.
Ridden by Ben Robinson, he was settled in mid-division early and travelled strongly through the opening mile before being asked to gradually improve as they approached the home turn. Once they entered the straight he wound up the gallop and made his way to the front with half a furlong to run staying on strongly to win by 1/2 a length. This 1m4f test was possibly on the short side for him given the sharp nature of the track at Catterick, but having broken his stable and hurdling maiden here on New Years Day, he clearly has a liking for it.
After the race trainer Ellison said ”He is a smashing horse, really honest and has a fair level of ability. He is a strong traveller and this would have been short enough for him today, I am looking forward to stepping him up in distance and there is plenty to come from him when he goes back over hurdles later in the year”.
